This is the moment a mysterious loud boom exploded across Las Vegas as a huge slash lit up the night sky.
The spectacle was captured on a resident's surveillance camera on April 25 just after 11pm in the Sunrise Manor area.
Out of nowhere, on a dark and quiet street, a large flash consumed the sky, followed by a large boom.
Kevin Laatz told Fox 5 that when he heard and felt the large boom, he hopped out of bed in a panic.
'I initially thought it was lightning and I brushed it off as such. But car alarms were going off and there's no clouds in the sky. It wasn't raining,' Laatz said.
A mysterious loud boom and bright flash took over the Sunrise Manor area on April 25 around 11pm. (pictured: the street view of the incident)
It is unclear exactly what caused the big boom, but Van Romero, a professor at New Mexico Tech, said he believes it was caused by a 'good-sized' firework.
The moment was captured on multiple cameras placed around Laatz's home.
In one shot, recorded from his driveway, the large flash is seen lighting up the sky, as the boom sound follows.
In a street view, the light takes over the dark sky and reflects off of vehicles, just before the loud sound comes crashing down.
Another angle captures the incident from inside his house as something is heard being shot into the air before the flash and boom occurs.
His dogs, who are seen laying in the living room, suddenly run away after they hear the noise and see the bright light.
Kevin Laatz said that he felt his house shake and saw the flash that he initally thought was lightening
Video from inside Laatz's home showed his dogs react to the 'good-sized' firework that is believed to have caused the event
'The first initial small sound woke me up and then I saw the flash and the boom shook the house and everything around me,' Laatz said.
'I felt it in bed, yeah, it was an intense shake.'
Romero predicted that the firework had to have been 10 to 12 inches in diameter or bigger, and is comparable to one that could be seen at a commercial firework show.
Due to its size, Romero explained that the suspected firework could have created the large flash and loud sound. He also thinks that it was launched about 200 to 400 feet off the ground.
A similar experience was felt and heard just after Super Bowl LVIII in the Lake Las Vegas area in Henderson.
Another video angle caught the strike of light and loud boom near Laatz's driveway
People said that windows rattled and homes shuddered, but it is unclear what caused that incident.
Although there is a possibility that the April incident was caused by a homemade firework, Romero said he is not sure if that is the case.
He added that the incident could have turned deadly and made rocks soar into the sky, similar to bullets being fired.
Romero warned that the loud explosions can also break eardrums and cause fingers to blow off.
Laatz said that he feared for the safety of the community that is filled with many families and young children.
'There's so many things that can go wrong,' he said.
